C5 children are very capable and eager to help their classroom stay organized and smoothly run. Children volunteer to perform jobs, such as laying out cots, because it gives them a sense of independence and ownership. Moreover, children want to participate in classroom jobs because it meets their need to help each other. Practicing routines, such as transitions and hand-washing, afford children the reassurance of knowing up-coming events and how to navigate through them. C5 believes that offering jobs and creating routines help children be active members in their classroom, gain autonomy through volunteerism, and feel a sense of partnership with their peers.
