C5 children are using various types of writing implements to express thoughts, feelings, and actions. In our preschool rooms, children practice writing at their own level, from scribbling and mock handwriting to letter strings and invented spelling. On their own and in groups, their writing is often in conjunction with a project or an activity that the learning group is exploring. Our school values each child’s innate curiosity to write in the form they choose. Often in a group setting, C5 teachers scaffold higher-learning writing skills and techniques (on a dry erase board, for example). Then, they work with each child at their current writing stage, free from pressure and expectations. Learn more about our Preschool Program.
