The preschool children were fascinated with pieces of things that interlocked. In this case, they were beginning with puzzles that they explored in conventional and unconventional ways. One puzzle had pieces representing baby animals that had to match and fit into the parent animal pieces. They made up stories to go with the matching process and tried different combinations that they knew would be difficult to fit, and yet allowed for different stories. They also experimented with ‘Magnatiles’ that have magnets that allow for unlimited combinations and formations. They particularly liked showing and explaining their final products.
